The Founder of Art For a Cause

After years of work in the corporate world and endless soul-searching, Lisa Knoppe-Reed believed she found her purpose in life and created a new business venture, Art For A Cause. With no formal artistic training, Knoppe-Reed skillfully paints whimsical scenes and colorful flowers on just about any wooden surface in her studio in Birmingham, Michigan. She then donates a portion of the revenue to local charities. Lisa has published her own “how-to” book, Furniture Painting Techniques Guide (1999) and still finds time to teach her furniture painting classes – the origin of Art For A Cause.

In 1999, Knoppe-Reed began painting handles of household gadgets like hammers, garden trowels and cultivators, and called them CuteTools!® The concept for CuteTools!® fundraising program came in 2000 as she was giving a presentation to a special education class. The students were so excited about the work that Knoppe-Reed decided to include them in her business of CuteTools!® She realized how she could join her passion for painting, her need to give to others and her keen business savvy. Since that time, she has been teaming up with schools, and charitable organizations to produce and sell CuteTools!®

Knoppe-Reed resides in Birmingham, Michigan with her husband Mickey. They have six daughters; two in Michigan, one in Alaska, two in Colorado, and one studying in Argentina. A member of Michigan Great Lakes soccer and a volunteer for the National Ski Patrol, the energetic Knoppe-Reed never slows down. She hopes to continue to help organizations around the world by making CuteTools!®.

Welcome to Cute Tools!

A portion of CuteTools!® are sanded and primed by children at various schools. Each tool, from hammers to spreaders, is carefully prepared by the students for the artists at Art For A Cause, LLC; a company with a mission to make a difference in our world through art. Each artist hand paints a beautiful floral pattern on a completely functional tool. The ordinary tool instantly becomes “cute”! They couldn't help being named CuteTools!® Now the most important part of this story is that while the students and the artists were hard at work producing such cute tools, a work ethic developed, charitable funds were raised, and every one just felt good knowing they were part of such a profound project.

In our fundraising program, the kids get to play an important role in the production of CuteTools!® They become part of the team and discover that every step of the project is just as important as the next; everyone is equal. They inventory the tools, sand, prime and even participate in quality control. CuteTools!® partners with schools to teach children a work ethic and basic business skills while enabling them to sell the products they’ve made to raise money for their organization or charity. The CuteTools!® program fits school curriculums from Kindergarten to 12th grade

What a Team! Everyone is equal, every step of the project just as important as the next. At Art For A Cause, LLC when your team is feeling good you can’t help but feel successful. So, please enjoy your CuteTools! and know that you’ve made a difference!

Thank-You, Lisa Knoppe Reed
