Chair Recovery Questions

by Cindi

Chair

Chair

Here is my upholstery question.. Any assistance would be appreciated greatly!

I watched your video. It was very informative. Do you have any more on upholstery?

The chair I am attempting to recover has coiled springs on the seat and also on the back. The arms and the back are padded with wood shavings (at least that is what I'm calling them) and layers of cotton over burlap covered springs.

What should I use to replace the padding. If I use foam on the arms should I use anything in addition to it? Also, the back is kind of molded over the springs with wood shavings and layers of cotton which leads me to my next question. What would work best to replace the back padding.

Also, is there a website you would recommend to purchase upholstery supplies as our fabric store carries very little for the DIY upholsterer.

I have attached a picture of my chair. It's pretty pitiful looking. :(

Any help will be appreciated!
Thank you,
Cindi

Response to Chair Recovery
by: Craig

Hello Cindi!

I appreciate you responding to our upholstery support community. You have taken on a nightmare for a novice but I will be here for you step by step.

What I need you to do for me is take the arm, seat and inside back padding off very carefully, we will use it later. Take the burlap off the arm, seat and inside back, this will be replaced.

I need you to take pictures after this is completed. We'll need the webbing underneath the chair. We also need a separate picture of springs on the arms, back and seat. The size limit to post them is 100kb per picture.

I'll continue instructions when the pictures are posted and I can see what we're working with.

I can get you any upholstery supplies you need.

This is going to be a very difficult piece to do over the internet, but if you're game, I'm game.

Thanks for posting, I look forward to working with you!
