Design it Yourself Projects
The theme of 2009 is almost certainly conservation. Whether you’re conserving money to battle our dreadful economy or conserving materials to help protect the environment, you can still make those much needed improvements to your bedroom this year. Nothing makes a bedroom pop like a stylish headboard. Why throw away hundreds of dollars on a piece of furniture that you can easily create yourself? Not only that, but you can probably make one from things you already have in your garage.
Creating a theme in the bedroom can help tie every furniture piece together wonderfully. The
beds
, armoires, night tables, and wall décor can all blend together seamlessly if you decide to design your room with a particular theme in mind. There are countless themes to choose from and depending on what theme you choose, you can probably build your own unique headboard with found or inexpensive items from your home.
First of all, who says your headboard needs to be attached to your bed? It’s much easier to design a headboard for your wall. Then you can simply position your bed in front to give the illusion that the headboard is part of the bed frame itself. This makes installation of your new headboard considerably easier. Here are few simple ways you can create a themed headboard from items you may already have.
Does your bedroom have a rustic of cottage theme? Many homes use distressed wood furniture to help add some much needed character to their home. By raiding your shed or garage, you may be shocked to find you have left over materials that could do wonders to help accent your bedroom. Old shutters for example, are a great find. Simply paint your old used shutters to a color that matches your bedroom, nail them to the wall above your bed, and presto! You have a stylish and chic distressed wood headboard.
Old doors can also be used to create a unique and elegant headboard. By turning an old door on its side, it is almost the perfect size to match the width of a queen or king sized bed. You can paint your new door headboard any color you want. If you are so inclined, you can even paint a mural or affix other found items to help give your room some more personality. A large framed canvas can offer a similar look if you have trouble finding useable wood around your home.
Do you enjoy hanging photos in your room? Are your walls already adorned with pictures of your friends and family? Why not create a trendy photo headboard then? Find large prints that you would like to display in your room and purchase some inexpensive frames for them. Hang the pictures side by side right above your bed to create a headboard that is eye catching as well as easy to install. You can even find landscape photos or other such prints that can help add to the theme of your room. The possibilities are almost endless when you decide to build your own headboard! Make it your own!
