I'm not really sure I know what your asking. If you are designing your own inlay. What you need to do is, Draw your pattern out on the vinyl in chalk. So it's easy to clean off. Then you will glue 1/2" foam to the back side of the vinyl. This is special foam with a fabric glued to one side. This allows you to sew along your chalk line and have fabric on the back side of the foam for the threads to catch.

Hope this helps
