Sweet Summer Skin Care
Get your skin glowing this summer with a fruit, yogurt and honey skin care application created by Christopher Watt, a Hollywood aesthetician to stars such as Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez, as a whimsical way to introduce honey as a soothing skin care application to his clients.
“Honey is one of the world’s best kept beauty secrets,” says Watt. “Women and men have used it as part of healthy skin care routines for centuries, but with all of the high-tech beauty treatments available today, I think most of us simply forgot about this all-natural beauty wonder.”
Because honey has enzymes, vitamins and other minerals that are beneficial to the skin, Watt recommends using honey as part of a regular beauty regimen. Just add a tablespoon or two to your favorite mask or apply honey directly to the skin. To minimize honey’s stickiness, Watt suggests applying honey to damp skin and then rinsing off with a warm face cloth.
As a humectant, honey draws moisture into the skin, making it a good choice for dry skin sufferers. It also has antimicrobial properties that inhibit the growth of bacteria and help thwart acne flare ups.
“Honey is good for all skin types. It is the purest beauty ingredient available today,” says Watt. “Literally, it goes from the hive to the bottle.”
Watt’s three ingredient summer skin care application is easy to make at home. Fruit, yogurt and honey can all be found at a local grocery store and clean up is minimal. Plus, you’ll be treating yourself to celebrity-style beauty without having to pay Hollywood prices.

How-to Pick the Best Swimsuit for You
Summer is a great time for outdoor activities, many of which require swimming attire. Women often find themselves dreading this time of year because they are not satisfied with how their swimsuit fits or makes them look. The problem is they don’t have the right swimsuit for their body.
“Everyone can be self confident during swimsuit season no matter what body type they have,” says Donnamarie Mazzola of Cyberswim.com, a swimwear Web site specializing in Miraclesuit swimwear. “There are easy ways to draw attention to or away from different aspects of your body that will flatter your shape and make you feel your best.”
Here are some tips to follow to get the swimsuit you want and look great this summer:
* Internet
Don’t limit yourself to only what is in the stores. Size selection and inventory is often limited and it can be hard to find the styles that work best for your unique figure, especially if you need a hard to find size like a D or DD cup swimsuit, or plus size swimwear. Try a Web site like Cyberswim.com that guides users through a variety of swimsuit styles so they can find the swimsuit solution for their problem areas. Plus shopping online is private and once you receive your suit, you can try it on in the privacy of your own home, and return it if it doesn’t fit or flatter.
* Fabric
One of the most important factors to consider when swimsuit shopping is the suit’s material. This is something that is often overlooked. Lycra Spandex is the component of the fabric that provides the shaping and holding power, so the more Lycra Spandex, the more control. Look for the amount of Lycra Spandex in the suit, and if possible, how the fabric is made; typically it is 10 to 12 percent.
For example, if you look at Miraclesuit swimsuits, they contain as much as 30-50 percent Lycra, often over three times the amount in other suits. This is very unique when compared to other suits, which have a lower Lycra Spandex content and rely on inner girdle-like panels for control. This fabric is specially created to have a four-way stretch factor, not simply the common two-way stretch. This provides control plus added lift and support.
* Identify
In order to find a great swimsuit you need to look at your body and identify what you want to minimize or accentuate. Remember, what the eye focuses on or skips past determines the swimsuit benefits.
For example, to minimize the waist, trick the eye to pass over this area or travel toward the middle of the waistline, rather than outward to the edges. Look for styles with empire waists and diagonal lines. To minimize the bust, focus the eye away from the widest part of the bust with wider or double straps and/or stripes above or below. To accentuate the bust, the eye should focus on this area. Look for suits that reveal more skin, have padding, or even jewelry or embellishments at the bust.
* Style
A flattering swimsuit with control is not usually found in the bikini. But you can be just as stylish and fun with a variety of other options. One-piece swimsuits compliment and provide a wide range of style options. Tankinis are great for those who want a two piece option without showing a lot of skin. They are also great for those who need a different size on top versus on the bottom.
Color and design are important elements as well. Darker colors tend to be more subtle. If you do want to incorporate a design, try having the top of the swimsuit, or top piece of the tankini have the pattern, keeping the bottom clean and simple. This has a slimming effect and brings the eyes upward.
“The bottom line is there are swimsuits out there that flatter every woman. By following these principles and looking for figure flattering, supportive and slimming swimsuits like the Miraclesuit line, you can find one you’re sure to love. And who doesn’t want to enjoy summer a little bit more?”

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month Protect Yourself and Loved Ones with “Skin Cancer Takes Friends”
Every 65 minutes, someone in the United States dies of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Women aged 20 to 29 are particularly vulnerable, with melanoma ranking as the second most common form of cancer in the age group. According to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), adopting a comprehensive sun protection program that includes daily UV protection, monthly self-examinations and yearly screenings by a dermatologist can substantially lower skin cancer risk.
In recognition of Skin Cancer Awareness Month this May, Olay and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) have joined forces for the third year for “Skin Cancer Takes Friends,” a nationwide free skin cancer screening program that encourages Americans to bring their friends to a participating dermasurgeon’s office for a free skin cancer screening. Screenings are quick, easy and painless -- they are noninvasive visual inspections of the entire body and only take two or three minutes. Complete lists of dermasurgeons volunteering for the program are available on skincancertakesfriends.org and asds.net
“Desperate Housewives” star Marcia Cross joins in the effort to raise awareness about the risks of skin cancer based on her personal experiences with the disease. “I feel blessed to have the opportunity to speak out on behalf of skin cancer awareness, an issue about which I’m extremely passionate. Melanoma has stricken two people very close to me, and I know that I am not alone,” says the Emmy-nominated actress. Marcia Cross is dedicated to helping spread the word about this worthwhile program, and about the importance of sun protection and regular screenings in the fight against skin cancer.
“Too many lives are lost because of failure to identify skin cancer until it has progressed to a more dangerous state. Everyone, even those with no family history of skin cancer, is at risk for this disease and should visit a dermatologist for an annual screening. A trained professional can identify and treat the disease in its earliest stages, and potentially save a life,” says Alastair Carruthers, M.D., president of the ASDS and associate professor of dermatology at the University of Birmingham, Birmingham Medical Center.
Melanoma is especially hard to stop once it has spread to other parts of the body. However, it can be readily treated if detected in its earliest stages.
How can you stay safe?
1. Apply a daily moisturizer with broad spectrum sun protection every day before going outside, like Olay Complete Defense SPF 30 for the face and Olay Body Age Transform Intensive UV Defense Serum for the body.
2. Examine skin at least once a month to search for any spots that seem to have changed size, color or shape. Focus on your neck, chest and torso, and use a bright light, full-length mirror, hand-mirror and blow-dryer to inspect hard-to-see areas such as the scalp and back of the neck. For more information on self-screening, visit skincancertakesfriends.org.
3. Learn your “ABCDE’s of moles and melanoma” and alert your dermatologist immediately to any of the following key warning signs: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Color variability, Diameter larger than a pencil eraser and/or Evolving moles that change size, shape or color.
4. Schedule a screening appointment once a year in order to increase your chances of detecting and treating melanoma.
