why sawing a stretcher and not cut a bigger piece of fabric?

I just received your DVD about wing chair recovery. I am starting my first project and wanted to be sure I watched it all the way thru.

The first comment that come to my mind is that I would have appreciated you review the tools needed for the job and particularly your opinion on staple gun. Would a good electric one can do the job (can't afford an air one + compressor).

As I am starting the project,I have an urgent question. I wonder why you saw some stretcher? Is there a technical reason why or is it in order to save fabric? I have plenty of fabric and thought of cutting larger pieces would be just easier.

More questions will come as I go along my project.

Thank you for the video, it was very interesting

Staple Guns

An electric gun will work, if the wood is not to hard. Stretcher are mostly used to save fabric, But if the arm or back is curved you will need this seam and a gathered stretcher to make the curve.

Thanks
